96% of parents are in favor of technological tools that facilitate the geolocation of their children - Studio Durcal

With the arrival of the summer holidays, the location of minor children is a major concern for parents. This is one of the conclusions of the study  Geolocation function for mothers and fathers (May 2021),  made by  Durcal, the app that guides home assistance remotely.
The main data of the study include the following:

  • Il  96%  of parents has  positively evaluated the geotag of their children / how.
  • THE  89%  of parents  sees in geolocation apps a safety tool for their children / like.
  • Il  62%  of parents  privileges the tranquility of the position of their children / as your privacy.
  • THE  87%  of parents yes  you feel uncomfortable and uneasy if you have not known where your child has been for five hours.
  • Il  77%  of parents  would give their children more free time / as if they knew their exact location.

With the onset of summer holidays, the return to the city or travel abroad, children's free time increases and with it also the concern of mothers and fathers to know where their children are at all times. And it is that the large influx of people in theme parks, beaches, swimming pools or shopping centers, as well as the constant outings with friends, fuel the degree of parental nervousness.

This concern is especially visible in those families with children from the age of 10, since it is from this age that they begin to go out and have projects with greater freedom and without adult supervision. Although many already have a cell phone, it is possible that due to the circumstances of each moment, they are unaware of the cell phone, do not remember to call their parents or even answer a call. While this is not a problem in most cases, most parents confirm their concern about the lack of information.

Solo one in ten parents say they feel calm when they haven't heard from their son or daughter for a long time and is confident that it will be safe. This is one of the main conclusions drawn from the study Geolocation function for mothers and fathers (May 2021) carried out by the app Durcal, the technological tool for family care.

"Just by looking at the mobile phone screen and seeing where our sons / daughters are, the anxiety of the parents decreases noticeably," says Olga Díez, a social psychologist.

According to the study, 86% of parents start to worry and feel uncomfortable when they have no news of their children for some time and of these a quarter enter a more severe state of nervousness and anxiety. As many as 2 in 10 parents are discouraged from the worst and terrified of not being connected to their children.

The state of alarm felt by parents increases with the passing of the hours, a third of them last no more than an hour without starting to feel restless and almost half last up to 3 hours, which worsens when more than 5 hours go by without news . Up to 92% of parents feel uncomfortable and uncomfortable if they don't know where their child is after spending this time. The main concern of 8 out of 10 parents is that someone or something has harmed their child.

“The discomfort parents feel when they don't know if their children are okay is a generalized fact. The younger the child, the more nervous he feels, he can even reach states of genuine fear. For this reason, something as simple as looking at a screen and seeing where your child is can greatly improve the mood of the parents, "he explains. Olga Diez, social psychologist at The Onion Inside.

According to the same study, for 98% of mothers and fathers, it is a relief to be able to know the exact location of their children when they have no news. For this reason, 96% of parents would prefer their children to always be geolocated and say that the state of discomfort they feel when they have no news of their children would lessen.

As for the use of geolocation through an easy-to-use technological tool, more than half of the parents interviewed confirm to want to use geolocation as a permanent way to take care of their children. The tendency to locate children at all times is most necessary when they are in the 10 to 14 age group.

Geolocation app as a tool for children

While geolocation is assumed to generate more debate about privacy than security, most parents surveyed prefer to know the location of their children if this provides both of them with greater security and peace of mind, at the expense of their own privacy.

In particular, the 84% of parents enjoy geolocation as a care tool for their children. This statement is not distinguished by either territory or age, although it is mostly perceived as a security tool for both girls and boys, it is true that the tendency to consider the app as a form of control is more pronounced. with girls than with boys.

This differentiation between girls and boys may respond to the fact that it seems that girls tend to be more willing to share their location in real time, as well as being more aware of their cell phones and more constantly in contact with their parents.

Although the study clearly reveals the general positive acceptance by parents of the use of geolocation for the safety of their children, only half of the parents surveyed currently use a tool to be able to monitor the location of their children and make sure they are safe. and in no danger. “We found that in most cases, people don't use geolocation because current solutions are complicated, expensive and no hassle for parents. With DurcalWe wanted to improve this by creating a free app to connect and take care of the whole family in a simpler and more intuitive way. With real-time location, we can see where our family members are or, for example, receive entry and exit alerts from defined places, "he explains. Guillem Viladomat, founder and CEO of Durcal

In short, there is a clear trend of general acceptance towards geolocation apps such as Durcal, for the care and safety of the whole family. Furthermore, although children may be reluctant at first to accept that their parents can know their position at all times, it could also directly benefit them as a large majority, and the 76% of parents would like to be more tolerant with the freedom of time if they knew her  exact location.

Above mothers, fathers ensure that they could relax their hourly rules, although both parents really perceive this as a measure of tranquility. The rules would be made equally flexible both in age and in general without distinction.

To continue strengthening the links of geolocation and family security, Durcal will launch at the end of this July some bracelets designed for minors and the elderly who do not have access to the use of mobile devices. The wearable will also be connected to the emergency services of each autonomous community.
