A cheap phone also has the right to support and updates

Assuming not everyone can opt for high-end phones, either because their buying power doesn't really give or because they honestly have other priorities in life. Very respectable but fortunately this is Android and we have a large catalog of terminals at our disposal. A multitude of brands, models, designs and above all prices.

Now, we've always said to be very careful with budget phones. Not only because many of them can come with bloatware and other types of surprises, but also because it is possible that these terminals have a very short useful life. And not because the device has poor hardware but simply because the brand forgets about it. This is the case of the Xiaomi which I will talk about later.

This Xiaomi was cheap but today it is really outdated

A shame, but cheap can sometimes be expensive be

It happened while I was cleaning. I found a Xiaomi phone that belonged to my father, especially the Redmi 4X. A device released in May 2017 with a 5-inch 1280 x 720 screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 13-megapixel camera, and a 4.100mAh battery. A fairly balanced device in terms of specifications, especially considering that it came out three years ago and its price, of only 149 euros.

Out of curiosity I turned it on, configured and installed some apps. The phone works really well today and could be used as a primary phone without any problems. Now, unfortunately this cheap and interesting Xiaomi has a big one but it is that the Chinese company forgot about it in no time.

You just have to go to the information on the phone to realize it. Android version 7.1.2, latest security patch from 1 October 2018 and MIUI version 11.0.2. Namely, this phone not only no longer had operating system updates, but had just one year of support in terms of security patches. And the truth is, the phone's hardware has given so much more of itself. All that remains is to see how in the XDA forum there are several roms based on Android 10 and MIUI 12. Obviously you need to install them and for this you need to have some advanced knowledge, which unfortunately not everyone has.

Cheap is sometimes expensive. Xiaomi must have thought at the time that a 149 euro phone did not deserve to have support and all this despite its hardware being able to move almost everything. Users who bought this phone (and many others like it) just a couple of years ago were left with an outdated and vulnerable phone, so they will surely have had to switch devices. Double your spending

Yes, they bought a cheap phone for 149 euros but in a short time they will almost certainly have to buy another terminal. Fortunately, in 2020, companies have learned their lesson e every time they have a better update policy, although there is still a lot to improve. And of course, no one is saying that a $ 100 phone does the same as a $ 1.000 phone.
