What happens when you change your username?

It is quite common that someone wonders what exactly happens when they change their Twitch username. Well, when the username is changed, your channel URL changes automatically, so you don't have to manually update the URL.

However, the old URL, which was set up based on your old username, doesn't redirect to your new URL. Other than that, nothing else is affected on your channel, from your profile picture to your subscribers, everything remains intact.

Do you want to recover your old username?

Sometimes it happens that you change your username to another one, but for some reason you want to go back to your old username. Well, when you change your username to another, Twitch keeps your old username for 6 months.

This means that your old username will not be available to anyone during that time. However, after 6 months, Twitch may release your old username to the group for new users. Then you will have to wait 6 months and then try your luck.

Change the color of the Twitch name

If you are someone who chats quite frequently on different live streams, then you know the importance of the username color that appears while chatting.

The different colors make everyone in the chat stand out to some extent. And surprisingly, you can change the color of your username in chats very easily.

To do this, you must be in the chat. And once you are in the message bar, you will need to write/color in the message bar and then send it.

For example, if I want to change the color of my username to Blue, I'll have to issue the command /color Blue.

And if you're not sure what color options are available, give the bot the /color command. You will now be able to see all the colors you can choose from. Unfortunately, there is no black color.

Also, it takes a few seconds for the change to take effect, so don't be disappointed if you can't see the changed color of your username right away.

Change your Twitch name and color on mobile

If you don't use Twitch on desktop that often and would like to change your username on the Twitch mobile app, unfortunately it's not possible.

However, you can log into your Twitch account on your mobile web browser and then change your username using the desktop site. If you do, you will have to follow exactly the same steps that we have already discussed above.

Now, not being able to change the username from the mobile app can be disappointing. But you will be happy to know that you can change the username color using the app.

For that, you'll need to be in the chat and type the same command we used to change the username color on the desktop.
