Does the processor matter when buying a smartphone?

When buying a new smartphone, there are many variations to consider. There are people who buy mobiles based on their design, based on their camera or based (obviously based on their price). Many of you will also say this based on its power and processor, because the reality is that having a device with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 is not the same as with a Kirin 990, but truth and honesty, the most people do this you don't even have a clue what processor your phones have.

A while ago, a market study by the company Global Web Index showed what the main concerns of consumers were when buying a smartphone. While this study has been around for a while, the truth is that it's totally valid today and confirms that the average user doesn't care about a smartphone's processor - they definitely won't know the difference between an Exynos or a Snapdragon - since you just want your new acquisition to perform well.

Should we worry about the processor when buying a smartphone?

Does the processor matter when buying a smartphone?

Is a processor important when buying a smartphone?

The summary of the study is that i consumers care about their phone's battery, storage, camera, and speed. And be careful, because it goes fast doesn't mean it has to have the best processor on the market. Let's take an example with Samsung. While one of its most powerful devices is the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, its best-selling smartphone in recent times has been the Galaxy A51. In terms of specs, the S20 Ultra wins by far, but that doesn't matter to people. The A51 has good battery life and good performance, and this works for people.

But we will not delude ourselves either. The Galaxy A51 is much cheaper than any high-end Samsung and that is taken into consideration too. Not everyone can spend $ 1.000 on a high-end and that's why they bet on cheaper phones. But let's do another test. Let's take an average user, that typical user who doesn't know the specs and we'll give him a OnePlus 8 Pro with its Snapdragon 865 and a Huawei P40 Pro with its Kirin 990.

Virtually everyone here knows that the Snapdragon performs far superior to the Kirin, but surely this average user won't find any difference. You can tell that OnePlus is a little faster but you won't know much more or the reasons. You will see that your applications such as WhasApp or your social networks open just as fast on both terminals and the rest will not matter to you. You will also see that the camera of both devices is very good and that the battery lasts longer in one than in the other, but you will not give that much more importance. This user will not say like AnTuTu, that the 865 is far superior to any other processor as this user cares between zero and nothing about the technical parts. He wants a nice smartphone that works well and has a long battery life.

So perhaps those of us who know more about the subject should look less at the numbers and more at the user experience. Because after all, the processor is one more element of a complex piece of machinery and in itself does not make one phone better than another.. Because honestly and on a day-to-day basis, the difference in performance between the different high-end products on the market is practically negligible.
