Microsoft has finally achieved the goal: the new Microsoft Edge is one of the best browsers available on Android, finally able to compete with the great references of this category such as Chrome, Firefox or Opera, among others. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of Bing, the default search engine of this browser.
For many, Google is an infinitely more powerful search engine than Bing, and unsurprisingly, those who started using Edge after the launch of its new version for different platforms, wanted to change the app's default search engine. Fortunately, it is possible, and doing it is extremely simple.
Choose your favorite search engine as the default engine in Edge for Android
By default, Microsoft Edge offers the choice of four search engines, including Bing and three other alternatives: Google, Yahoo and DuckDuckGo - the latter, by the way, is one of the alternatives that will be offered on Android now that Google It is no longer the default search engine -. However, it is likely that the list differs slightly from country to country. To choose one or the other, you just need to follow these steps:
- Open Microsoft Edge on Android and tap the menu button at the bottom center
- Tap "Settings" and look for the "Default Search Engine" section
- Choose the default search engine you want to use
By changing the default search engine, any searches performed using Edge's search bar will be performed using the search engine of your choice. Also, if you add the Edge widget to the home screen, the same engine will also be used to perform content searches. This way you can enjoy all the good of Edge - which is no small feat -, with all the benefits of your favorite search engine.
