How to change your music app using Siri in iOS 14.5

Apple in iOS 14.5 has added a new option so that Siri can learn to select the audio apps of your choice for listening to music, podcasts and audiobooks, a feature that focuses, as well as benefiting users, to mitigate the accusations that Apple abuses its power with the apps pre-installed in the operating system (in this case Apple Music).

When you ask ‌Siri‌ to play a song, album, podcast, or book, Siri will ask you what your favorite app is. This isn't a default setting, but Siri will use this information to use it without you having to repeat the app you want to use every time.

There's no preference you can turn on or off to select a music service (although we don't understand why), so Siri can ask again to confirm that your preferences haven't changed.

How to select the app to play content using Siri

How to change your music app using Siri in iOS 14.5
  1. Update to iOS 14.5 or iPadOS 14.5.
  2. Ask ‌Siri‌ to play music from an artist, song or album with a typical “Hey Siri, play Fleetwood Mac” prompt.
  3. ‌Siri‌ will show a list of all the music apps you have installed and ask you "Which app do you want me to use?"
  4. Select the one you prefer from the list.
  5. If prompted, confirm that Siri can access the data from the selected music app.
  6. From that moment, Siri‌ will play the music in the app you indicated. If you have chosen Spotify, for example, from then on, whenever you ask it to play music or podcasts, Spotify will automatically open.

‌However, Siri‌ will tell you the application you selected when you open the application and you can always see the music app icon open in the Now Playing window.

You can still use other apps to play content, simply by specifying the app you want to use when making the request to Siri, for example "Hey Siri, play music with Musixmatch", but if you don't specify anything, Siri will always open the app you specified the first time you did this (since you installed iOS 14.5 or later, of course).
