How to create a daily planner in Excel?

Add checkboxes

  • Add the controls on the sheet. Some form controls can be very useful in these cases, such as the checkbox. From the developer ribbon, click Insert and then select the check box.
  • Clear the text in the box and place the item in the first cell where the activities begin.
  • Assign a cell to the check box. For the text to change appearance and indicate that the activity has already been done, the control must be associated with the cell. Right-click the control and select the Format Control option. In Link with cell enter the corresponding cell number.
  • Add a new rule to the Activity cell. Select the cells just below the task title to apply a different format each time the task is run. On Start, select the New Rule option.
  • Select the Use a formula that determines the cells to format option. The formula to use is = IF ($ A7, -1,0), where A7 is the cell associated with the check box indicating when a task was performed.
  • Select the format of the new text, in this case we select the Strikethrough option. When an activity is finished, the text is crossed out.

Calculate the duration of an activity

  • Apply formatting for the cells. The cells that correspond to the Start, End, and Duration fields must be in time format.
  • Calculate the hour of duration of an activity. The following formula must be entered in the cell under the title Duration:

= [@ [End]] - [@ [Start]]




By following a simple set of instructions you can build a completely personalized daily planner, you just have to add what you need. Each case is particular, add new items or delete others.
