The Banker, on Apple TV +

I had wanted to write about this film for some time, but you know, the man proposes and ...

I had already seen the films produced by Netflix, but they have always seemed to me (I don't want to generalize because I have not seen them all) second-rate films, disguised as the first. That is to say, the production was superior to a normal show, but neither the script, sometimes neither the protagonists nor the filming, conveyed those feelings that one feels watching a film, even sitting on the sofa at home with the camera. Lamp on.

Movies on streaming video channels can be interpreted as ambitious series or complex cinematic films, depending on the point of view you want to see them.

But this is not the case with The Banker. This is a movie that appears to have been released on the Apple channel (same case as Tom Hanks' Greyhound, but we'll get to that another time).

Everything in El banquero breathes cinema: the production, the photography, the sets, the actors, of course! I saw it on television but I could have seen it on a big screen and it would have come out with the same feeling: I saw a good movie.

Even the story has its complexities: I don't want to blow the subject up to those who haven't seen it, but, as befits the times, it's a story of black men who want to be successful, who fight against the system ... and almost win. For once, the fool, the fool, the fool, is a white man.

I don't doubt the story is embellished so that the good guys are very good and the bad guys are worse, but it's a very curious story, based on real events - the guys and what they do actually happened - and it's very well told.

I've read comments from people who found it syrupy in excess, but I didn't get that feeling. That is to say, you have to enter the game that you will see a story of "heroes" of their time and therefore it is foreseeable that they will turn a blind eye to their shortcomings as people or to lesser known aspects of their life trajectory.

You can see it as a fairy tale or as a historical anecdote, but the important thing is that you like it. I did it.
