Apple may have to shut down Apple TV + in Europe

A little big problem has arisen for Apple TV + in Europe: the legislation that protects local productions.

In this US-centric Apple, where the rest of the world is simply a market where they sell their magic, perhaps they thought that by commissioning, producing and executing quality series they had the development plan in place.

It's all about accumulating quality series and movies, and the market will continue (to paraphrase Steve Jobs). It turns out it's not that easy… While there are some Israeli-made productions gaining space on Apple TV + (coincidence?), The rest of the world seems forgotten for buyers of Apple's streaming channel.

Only one series shot in England (the beautiful, simple and straightforward “Trying”) has appeared on the shelf in Apple's video store.

In an effort to level the opportunities in the field of audiovisual creation for European creators, European Union legislators have proposed legislation that would require streaming services such as Apple TV + and Netflix to include 30% of the content created in the territory of the Union. European. or risk a marketing ban.

Apple may have to shut down Apple TV + in Europe

The law, presented in Ireland as the Outline of Online and Media Safety Law, was published by Catherine Martin, Irish Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaelic, Sports and Media.

Although it is a bit complex to understand, if you do not follow the pros and cons of legislative development, it happens that the development of European directives has fallen on the Irish legislators. It is in the development of these directives that this law forms part of which, although originally published and passed in Ireland, it is now elevated to a law of general application across the EU.

Under the law, an Irish commission will monitor compliance with the law across the European Union and determine whether streamers comply with the requirements.

If ratified, the law would require that all services that broadcast their content (Apple, Amazon, Netflix ...) host at least 30% of the content classified as "European works" (even if produced in England, which belongs to the EU) or it cannot be marketed in the European Union.
