Apple has already activated new spatial audio for Apple Music subscribers, which uses Dolby Atmos to create a richer and more immersive soundstage when listening to songs in the Apple Music catalog.
With Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos enabled, the subjective experience is that the musical notes come from everywhere. The steps below show you how to check the new audio feature on any iOS device with an Apple Music subscription.
- Launch the app Settings your iPhone or iPad.
- Awards Music.
- In 'Audio', tap Dolby Atmos.
- Choose between Automatic, Always access e off
Now that Dolby Atmos has been enabled, the audio experience will be more immersive. Apple Music will play Dolby Atmos tracks on all AirPods and Beats headphones with an H1 or W1 chip, as well as built-in speakers on the latest iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
Make sure you've enabled spatial audio on compatible headphones.
Check that the AirPods Pro firmware is up to date
In September 2020 it released 3A283 firmware for AirPods Pro which enabled spatial audio. Apple may release new firmware at a later time, but you can check the firmware of your AirPods Pro by following these steps:
- Make sure AirPods or AirPods Max are connected to your iOS device.
- apri Settings.
- Toccata General.
- Toccata AirPods o AirPods Max.
- Look at the number where it says "Firmware Version".
How to enable spatial audio
- Make sure AirPods or AirPods Max are connected to your iOS device.
- apri Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
- Find your AirPods Pro / Max in the list.
- Tap the button of information (i) next to AirPods.
- Move the switch next to Spatial audio in the green (On) position.
How to turn spatial audio on and off in Control Center
- Make sure AirPods Pro / Max are connected to the iOS device.
- apri Control Center: on an iPad, with a Start button, double-click the Start button; On an iPhone 8 or later, swipe up from the bottom, and on an iPad Pro 2018, iPad Air 2020, or iPhone X and later, swipe down from the top of the screen.
- Touch and hold pressed the control bar of volume.
- Tap the button Spatial audio to turn it on or off.
