Apple Music: How to Enable Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio

Apple has already activated new spatial audio for Apple Music subscribers, which uses Dolby Atmos to create a richer and more immersive soundstage when listening to songs in the Apple Music catalog.

  1. Launch the app  Settings  your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Awards  Music.

  4. Choose between  AutomaticAlways access off

Check that the AirPods Pro firmware is up to date

In September 2020 it released 3A283 firmware for AirPods Pro‌ which enabled spatial audio. Apple may release new firmware at a later time, but you can check the firmware of your ‌‌AirPods Pro‌‌ by following these steps:

  1. Make sure ‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌ or ‌AirPods Max‌ are connected to your iOS device.
  2. apri Settings.
  3. Toccata  General.
  4. Toccata  AirPods  o  AirPods Max.
  5. Look at the number where it says "Firmware Version".

How to enable spatial audio

  1. Make sure ‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌ or ‌AirPods Max‌ are connected to your iOS device.
  2. apri Settings  on your ‌iPhone‌ or ‌iPad‌.
  3. Find your ‌AirPods Pro‌ / Max in the list.
  4. Tap the button of  information  (i) next to AirPods‌.
  5. Move the switch next to Spatial audio  in the green (On) position.

  1. Make sure ‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌ Pro / Max are connected to the iOS device.
  2. apri  Control Center: on an ‌iPad, with a Start button, double-click the Start button; On an iPhone 8 or later, swipe up from the bottom, and on an iPad Pro 2018, iPad Air 2020, or iPhone X and later, swipe down from the top of the screen. 
  3. Touch and hold pressed the control bar of volume.
  4. Tap the button  Spatial audio  to turn it on or off.
