Apple Pay is about to be available in Mexico

Apple has added a landing page for Apple Pay to its website in Mexico, an indicator that the payment system is about to roll out in the country.

As early as last March, rumors began that Apple Pay could be launched in Mexico once some users in the country were able to add their Banregio bank cards to the Wallet app, although the verification process didn't work.

Conversely, cards from different banks were not recognized as compatible in the Wallet app, which suggests that the payment system may initially be limited to Banregio only.

The Apple Pay on page on Apple's Mexico website does not offer details of the banks that will integrate the service or the launch date. He only adds that ‌Apple Pay‌ will be compatible with “Apple Pay works with credit and debit cards of the most important payment networks, issued by various national banks”. - just above the Visa, MasterCard and American Express logos.

If the experience in other countries is of any use, once the service is launched, it will have a high adoption rate - especially in these times of pandemic, where it is advisable not to handle money as a possible path of contagion - it will accelerate the interest of other banks to be present on the Apple platform.

Apple launched "Apple Pay" in Brazil in 2018, but it has not yet expanded to any Hispanic American country. ‌‌Apple Pay‌‌ is also available in the United States and Canada.
