Apple signs multi-year agreement with Skydance Animation

Apple, which already had an agreement with Skydance to produce the Asimov novel series "Fundación" (Foundation), and which had reached an agreement to distribute the two animated films it was producing, through its subsidiary Skydance Animation, have formalized this collaboration by signing an agreement for several years to generate content for children and families.

In December, a rumor emerged that Apple was negotiating with Skydance Animation to buy the rights to “Luck” and “Spellbound,” the two animated films due out in 2022.

“Luck” follows the adventures of a very unfortunate girl who enters the unknown world of good and bad luck. To be successful, he will have to ally himself with magical creatures that will allow him to discover a force even more powerful than luck itself.

“Spellbound” is a musical fantasy that takes place in a magical world where a young woman must break the spell that has divided her kingdom in two.

With this agreement, the two seasons of the animated series “The Search for WondLa” will be available on ‌Apple TV + ‌. The series is based on Tony DiTerlizzi's children's science fiction books, which follows the story of Eva Nine, a girl who has spent most of her life living underground, until she is forced to emerge and survive. For this he will have a robot named Muthr, an alien named Rovander Kitt and a water bear (tardigrade) named Otto.

Skydance Animation is directed by John Lasseter, former creative director of Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar, who left in 2018 due to sexual harassment allegations.

Interestingly, Skydance Animation has an agreement with Ilion Animation Studios, a Spanish animation studio (based in Las Rozas de Madrid) and authors of the hit Planet 51.

The studio was created in 2002 by the founders of the video game company Pyro Studios, the Pérez Dolset brothers, in order to produce high quality animated films, also founders of U-Tad, the university specializing in studies related to new technologies ..

According to Wikipedia, Ilion is involved in the development of Luck, one of the films that will reach Apple TV + thanks to the agreement with Skydance.
