macOS Big Sur 11.1 offers compatibility with AirPods Max headphones, contains improvements to the TV app, and provides privacy information on the App Store. This version also includes bug fixes for Mac.
AirPods Max
- Compatibility with the new AirPods Max helmet style headphones.
- High fidelity audio for rich sound.
- Adaptive equalizer that adapts the sound in real time to the personal setting of the earcups.
- Active noise cancellation to block out ambient noise.
- Ambient sound mode to hear your surroundings.
- Spatial audio with dynamic head position tracking to create a fully immersive experience.
Apple TV
- From the new “Apple TV +” tab, you can easily discover and watch Apple Originals series and movies.
- The search function has been improved so that you can search by categories (for example, by genre) and view recent searches and suggestions as you type.
- The best search results for movies, TV series, cast, channels and sports are displayed based on their relevance.
App Store
- There is a new privacy information section on the App Store app pages that includes a developer-provided summary of the app's privacy practices.
- Recommendations for new games are provided in the Apple Arcade games interface.
App for iPhone and iPad on Mac computers with M1 chip
- The new window options in the iPhone and iPad apps allow you to change the orientation (landscape or portrait) or expand the window to full screen.
Photography
- Photos in Apple ProRAW format can be edited in the Photos app.
Safari
- Ability to use the Ecosia search engine in Safari.
Air quality
- Information available in the Maps and Siri app for mainland China locations.
- When certain levels of air quality are reached, Siri offers health recommendations in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, India and Mexico.
This release also fixes the following issues:
- QuickTime Player may crash when opening a video with a timecode hint after updating from macOS Catalina.
- The status of the Bluetooth connection was not displayed in the control center.
- Problem with the reliability of automatic Mac unlock using an Apple Watch.
- Trackpad scrolling speed may be faster than expected on MacBook Pro models.
- LG UltraFine 5K Display may incorrectly display 4K resolution on Mac computers with M1 chip.
