AirTag used to check a post parcel across the UK

An Apple (and Royal Mail) customer in the UK used the search network to record the journey of an Airtag packed in an envelope and sent to another city.

Described in an article on Intego's blog, Kirk McElhearn placed an AirTag attached to the carton inside a bubble envelope and sent it to a friend. Kirk lives in Stratford-upon-Avon (Shakespeare's city) and sent his AirTag to a friend who lives near London.

Using the Find app on his iPhone, Kirk claims he was able to record his AirTag's journey, including its passage through a "highly automated" post office.

It didn't take long for Airtag to begin their journey. At 5:49 am he started moving along Stratford-upon-Avon, probably in a mail truck. At 6:40 he had left the city heading north.

At 7:30 he arrived at the South Midlands Post Office, a "highly automated processing center," a giant warehouse where mail is sorted. Having just one employee with an iPhone and Network Find enabled is enough to record the location, but there is likely to be more than one employee with an iPhone.

Kirk created a custom script on his Mac that took a screenshot of the Find app every two minutes, as a way to record movements. The video of the catches is visible in the article, for those interested. A few days later the AirTag arrived at a friend's house near London.
