Apple announces the new iPad Air

Apple today unveiled the most powerful, versatile and colorful iPad Air ever. It comes in five stunning finishes and features a 10,9-inch edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display, camera and sound enhancements, a new Touch ID sensor integrated into the top button, and the outstanding performance of the A14 Bionic chip. The best iPad Air ever made will be available starting next month.

New design and five beautiful finishes for the iPad Air

The new iPad Air offers a new slim and light design in five fantastic finishes: silver, space gray, rose gold, green and light blue. The new 10,9-inch edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display ensures a unique visual experience thanks to its 3,8 million pixels and advanced technologies such as full lamination, wide color gamut (P3), True Tone and anti-reflective coating.

So that the screen takes up the entire front, the Touch ID sensor has been integrated into the button at the top, allowing you to unlock the iPad Air, access apps and pay with Apple Pay with the ease, comfort and security of always. IPad Air is compatible with the Magic Keyboard with its floating design and integrated trackpad, the Smart Keyboard Folio, the new Smart Folio cases and the Apple Pencil, which magnetically attaches to the side of the device for easy connection, charging and storage .

The most powerful iPad Air features the A14 Bionic chip

The iPad Air multiplies its power thanks to the A14 Bionic chip, Apple's most advanced to date. This chip can handle even the most demanding apps, making it even easier for users to edit 4K videos, create artwork, immerse themselves in their favorite games, and more.

With its revolutionary 5 nanometer processing technology, the A14 Bionic chip contains 11,8 billion transistors which offer more performance and less power consumption in all respects. This next-generation A-series chip features a six-core design that increases CPU speed by 40% and a new quad-core architecture that improves graphics by 30%.

To take machine learning and the apps that use it one step further, the A14 Bionic chip incorporates a 16-core neural engine that is twice as fast and can perform 11 trillion operations per second, as well as second-generation accelerators that allow the CPU to perform calculations using this technology up to ten times faster.

The combination of the new Neural Engine, in-CPU machine learning accelerators and high-performance GPU delivers unique experiences of image recognition, natural language learning, motion analysis and more.

Improved camera and surround sound

The iPad Air has a 7MP FaceTime HD front camera and now the same 12MP rear camera as the iPad Pro, allowing you to take high-resolution photos and record 4K videos. The new iPad Air design includes stereo speakers in landscape mode, so users can enjoy a more immersive sound experience when watching videos.
IPad Air now features a USB-C port with data transfer speeds of up to 5Gbps allowing you to connect cameras, hard drives and external monitors with up to 4K resolution up to ten times faster.

With Wi-Fi 6 technology, up to 60% faster LTE connectivity and the A14 Bionic chip, this is by far the most powerful iPad Air.

One hundred percent iPad experience with iPadOS 14

iPadOS 14, which will be available from Wednesday, September 16, is loaded with redesigned features and elements that take full advantage of the most distinctive aspects of the iPad, such as its huge Multi-Touch screen and its most versatile accessories.

iPadOS 14 enhances the integration of Apple Pencil with iPad to make writing and handwriting easier than ever before. When taking notes on the iPad, Smart Select uses the device's machine learning to distinguish between drawings and handwritten text, so it's easy to select, copy, and paste into another document as typed text using the usual gestures.

Shape recognition allows users to accurately draw geometric figures and position them when adding diagrams and illustrations in Notes. Data detectors work perfectly with handwritten text and recognize phone numbers, dates, addresses, and connections, so doing things like tapping a handwritten number to make a call is a breeze.

iPadOS 14 also debuts with Handwriting on iPad. Apple Pencil users won't want to part with it, as they can type directly into any text field, which greatly speeds up tasks like replying to an iMessage or doing a search in Safari.

Handwriting uses the device's machine learning to convert handwritten text into typed text in real time in a totally private and secure way.

iPadOS 14 includes many other new features that extend the user experience with the iPad:

  • New, more compact layouts for notifications of incoming FaceTime calls and video calls, interactions with Siri and searches so that users are not distracted by their activities.
  • Universal search to quickly find almost everything, from finding and opening apps to accessing contacts, files and information, to getting answers to common questions about people and places.
  • New sidebars in many apps, including Photos and Files, as well as simplified toolbars that bring together multiple controls for ease of use.
  • Large redesigned widgets that display useful information at a glance on the home screen.

The most advanced and ecological range of iPads

The new iPad Air is designed to be environmentally friendly and contribute to Apple's goal of reducing carbon emissions to zero by 2030. The iPad Air has several 100% recycled elements, such as aluminum in the case. the main motherboard tin solder and the rare earth magnets used in the speakers.

IPad Air is free of harmful substances, consumes little energy and is packaged in recycled wood fiber or from sustainable forests.
