Create your main page from scratch
The first thing to do is to find the page panel menu bar, located on the right of the screen, and choose ¨ New master page ¨. A submenu with the reference ¨ will be displayed Master page options ¨
The parameters will appear: prefix, name, based on the master page and number of pages. They require the specifics you will read below:
- Prefix. Enter a prefix that identifies the master page applied to each page in the pages pane. Here you can enter up to four characters.
- Your name. Enter a name for the master signature.
- Based on the page maestra. Choose the "None" option. This choice is the most important of all the others.
- Number of pages. Enter a value for the number of pages you want to include on the main page (the limit is ten).
After specifying the above options, click the " OK". This is the time to start creating your design. A tip that may help you is to sketch the project with pencil and paper and then digitize your creation. This way, you will be clear on what information will go on each page.
Create master pages from an existing page or spread with Adobe InDesign
With this option, you will reach your goal in just two steps. Read on and you will find out what they are:
- Select an entire sheet from the "Panel Pages / Pages" section and drag it to the " Master Pages ".
- Choose a spread in the ¨Pages¨ panel and click ¨ Save as main page ¨
You will be able to verify that the objects on the original page or sheet will become part of the new master page. If you wish, you can vary the characteristics of the master page by using another master page as a base, and choose to update the other pages. We will identify the pages as follows:
- Main sheet or main page. It is within the same document.
- Secondary spreads or master pages. Created from the original master page.
To illustrate a bit what can be done, let's assume that the document you are using contains 21 chapters where master sheets they vary very little in design or layout and in the common objects of all of them. If so, you can change the basic layout.
For example, you can add objects, which will appear in the document with a dotted border. This would take a few minutes, as when editing or changing the main master spread it is not necessary to play all 21 chapters one by one.
