WhatsApp video calling quickly became a key feature of the platform, surpassing other apps such as Skype. After telling you some of the tricks you should know about WhatsApp video calling, we are still focused on this tool to tell you how you can record them.

If you want to save those video calls you keep with your family and friends for posterity, be careful, because there are some aspects you should take into consideration when recording them on your mobile. Next, we will tell you everything you need to know to record WhatsApp video calls.

How are WhatsApp video calls recorded?

First, before recording any video call on WhatsApp, you must respect the privacy of other people who participate. In Spain it is allowed to record them, but it is advisable to notify the other participants of the video call so that they at least know that everything they do will be recorded on your mobile.

Having considered this detail, it should be noted that WhatsApp does not have a native feature that allows you to record video calls that you keep in its application. For this reason, you have to go to third party apps to be able to record and keep those video calls, which will pose some obstacles.

The main problem is that, on those phones running Android 9 Pie or later, Google doesn't allow external apps to record internal audio, they can only record audio coming from the phone's microphone. That audio coming from the microphone in question is used by WhatsApp during video calls, therefore Recording apps cannot access either the internal sound or the microphone. In short, it is not possible to record the audio of WhatsApp video calls, only the video.

Once you know this information about recording video calls in the app, it's time to know how to record them. Since it does not have a native WhatsApp feature, you need to record your Android mobile screen while making the video call. I our case, I fare it with the AZ Screen Recorder app, but in the play store you can find other similar apps like Mobizen or Game Screen Recorder.

Next, let's explain step by step how to record a WhatsApp video call with the AZ Screen Recorder app (the rest of the apps work similarly).

1º- Apri AZ Screen Recorder e accept all permissions the app needs to work properly: access files on your device, record audio and show above other apps, especially important that a floating button appears which will make it easier for you to record.

2º- Enter WhatsApp and prepare the video call you want to record: if it is individual, access the conversation with the contact and, if it is a group video call, you can create a group containing the contacts you want to have it with.

3º- Once the video call is ready, fai scroll the notification bar e click the camera button to start recording. You can also do this by clicking the red floating button on the camera.

4- A notification will appear informing you that the app will record everything that is shown on the screen. Click "Start Now" and a 3 second countdown will begin before the recording begins. Take advantage of that time to start the video call on WhatsApp and make sure it's registered from the start.

5º- To stop recording the video call, you just need to do scroll down the notification bar and click the Stop button, represented by a square. Therefore, the video of the video call recording will be saved in the AZ Screen Recorder gallery and in your mobile phone gallery *. You can see it whenever you want to relive the WhatsApp video call, remembering that the audio could not be recorded.

Until Android changes its recording app policies of the screen and to calls for mobile phones Android 9 or later, recording WhatsApp video calls with a mobile phone of one of these versions must comply with the conditions that we have explained in the previous paragraphs. If you have a phone with an older Android version, the normal thing is that you don't suffer this restriction from Google and you don't find any problems recording video calls on WhatsApp.
